Green Split Pea Soup

July 26, 2020 by The Head Chef

I used to make my Green Split Pea Soup over the stove top. When I got my Instant Pot, I really wanted to see if it would make a difference in taste and time. Allow me to report back that there is no difference in taste but there is a difference in time and how easy it is to make. It is literally a dump and go recipe. I do have extra steps after the soup is done cooking. I prefer to blend my soup and then strain out any additional fibers. The straining of the soup is solely for texture purposes in which I enjoy.

An additional plus in making the soup in the Instant Pot is that I am not left with half of the liquid. Over the stove top I would always end up with less liquid because it evaporates from cooking for such a long time. I LOVE THIS SOUP RECIPE. My kids were always hesitant to eat a green soup but they love the taste and I would assume the smooth texture always helps. šŸ™‚

***This soup can be made vegetarian by subbing out the Chicken Stock with Vegetable Stock or Water. You may also omit the diced ham.***
